Risk Appetite Management
The Risk Appetite Management allows an administrator to ‘build’ the risk appetite report structure and set the RAG rules.
Selecting Risk Appetite from Admin menu will open Risk Appetite Management Form where all existing sections are presented and new sections can be added. From this page section can be also edited or obsoleted and the order can be set that will display on the Risk Appetite Input and Dashboard page.
To create new Risk Appetite Section select button from the Risk Appetite Management page. Create Section form will open where you can populate Title, Description and select Categories (this are the existing Risk categories that can be linked to the Risk Appetite Section). To save all the details press Save on the bottom of the form.
Once Risk Appetite Section is saved the Add Metric table is activated underneath. Click on button and Metric create form will open.
You can create multiple metrics per section. A metric contain following fields: Metric Type (%, £, Euro, Number, Variance from target and Variance Percentage), Title, Definition, Trend Direction and Obsolete option.
MetricType:
When Variance from target option is selected in the Metric input page, then you will be able to add five values:
- Green High
- Green Low
The above will be ranges for a ‘green’ result in the Appetite Dashboard
- Amber High
- Amber Low
The above will be ranges for an ‘Amber’ result in the Appetite Dashboard. The High value should be higher than the Green High value, and the Low value should be lower than the Green Low value – this should be checked upon save.
- Target Value
The Target value should be within the Green Low and Green High range.
Any value that is outside of the Amber range will be Red. The above ranges are hierarchical where the green range trumps amber and amber trumps red.
When ‘Variance from target’ is selected, the ‘trend’ icon (on the dashboard) would be updated to show:
Red Up – current value is higher than previous value and further from target
Red Down – current value is lower than previous value and further from target
Green Up – current value is higher than previous value and closer to target
Green Down – current value is lower than previous value and closer to target
When Variance Percentage option is selected same values will have to be populated as described above however, the values entered will be percentage variation from target, and therefore the ‘actual’ range values will need to be calculated and stored upon save.
Trend
Trend direction is a method of telling the system if ‘less is more’ or if ‘bigger is better’. Less is more meaning that heading towards zero is good - such as number of incidents; Bigger is better is where a higher number is desirable – such as % of compliance.
RAG
The RAG is a range for setting Appetite (Green), Trigger (Amber) and Tolerance (Red).
Once Metric form is populated click on the Update button and created metric will display under the Section form. Metric can be edited by clicking on the Edit button against it. If metric is not required it can be set to obsolete and will not display within the Section on Input or Dashboard form. Order of the metrics can be set by clicking on the arrows pointing up and down. If metric has been set up in mistake it can be deleted only if it has not been used on the publication yet.
